How Provider Routing Works

When you make an API call through Lava, the proxy automatically handles:

  • Authentication — Lava manages provider-specific API keys
  • Request formatting — Requests are forwarded in the provider's native format
  • Response streaming — Full streaming support for real-time responses
  • Usage tracking — Tokens, characters, and costs are metered automatically

Requesting New Providers

If you need a provider that isn't currently supported, contact us and we'll work to add it. New providers can typically be added quickly since Lava's proxy architecture is designed for extensibility.
